MINEPDED SW Introduces New Measure to Rid Buea of Plastic Bottles

The South West Regional Delegation of Environment Protection of Nature, and Sustainable Development (MINEPDED), has introduced waste plastic bottles collection cages in Buea to ensure effective plastic waste management.

In an interview granted Voice of Nature News  recently, MINEPDED South West Regional Chief of Service for Information,  Sensitization and Documentation, Mrs. Mercy Ekwaingen, said the plastic bottle collection cages are necessary to reduce the amount of  plastic bottles in the town, which mostly end up in gutters and  streams.

Stationed at strategic spots in the South West Regional capital last November 2018, Mrs. Ekwaingen implored the population of Buea  to make good use of the cages to keep the town clean. “The  collection cages have been placed at Check Point, Bongo Square, UB Junction and Buea town. So, all those in Buea should put their waste plastic bottles in these cages and sensitize their friends and neighbors to do same  so we can have a clean environment,” she expounded.

Quizzed on what MINEPDED intends to do with the waste plastic bottles, the Regional Chief of Service for Information,  Sensitization and Documentation said the Delegation  is working in collaboration with a recycling company in Limbe , Name, for the recycling of the plastic bottles.

She recommended that the population of Buea sort their waste, that is separate biodegradable wastes from other wastes, and put all their waste plastic bottles in the cages, as a step towards handling the waste management crisis rocking Buea.
